Hundreds of international events and celebrations for 500 years since the death of Leonardo da Vinci.

• – In Vinci, Leonardo’s place par excellence, the exhibition will be held from 15 April to 15 October 2019

Leonardo da Vinci: At the origins of the Genius, centered on Leonardo’s bond with his native city
and on the suggestions that the land of origin offered to its path as an artist, technologist and scientist.

In this perspective, some documents of the State Archive of Florence, fundamental, will be presented for the reconstruction of the earliest events in the life of the Vinciano, and the first known design realized by Leonardo, the Landscape (photo below), dated 5 August 1473, kept at the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence. Of great suggestion
within the biographical section, the display of the notarial register of Leonardo’s great-grandfather on the which, on the last page, the grandfather Antonio da Vinci noted the birth, after that of his sons, of the first grandson, Leonardo.

Vinci will also be one of the stops of the 1000 Miglia 2019, where the caravan will pass on Friday 17th May 2019.

• – In Anghiari (Ar) where, the museum dedicated to the eponymous battle from 1 September 2019 to 12 January 2020 will host the exhibition from the work of Leonardo da Vinci to the Gioviana degli Uffizi series;

• – In Prato where already since last October and until next 26 May 2019, the Museum Foundation
of the fabric has organized Leonardo da Vinci and the fabric: the ingenuity in textile machines.
To close this review the Rossana & Carlo Pedretti Foundation, has organized from 2 May to
2 August 2019 Leonardo da Vinci: stage sets, parties and costumes.

• – In Florence, in the Uffizi Chamber of Commerce, since last October the
shows The Leicester Code by Leonardo da Vinci. The Water Microscope of Nature, which has
reported in Italy, for the second time after the 1982 exhibition, the precious manuscript already known as Hammer Code.

• – In Florence, the Galileo Museum has a large program on its calendar. We report the conference entitled Leonardo: the universe of manuscripts (October 2019), the exhibition entitled The Library of Leonardo (May – September 2019) and the Leonardo exhibition and perpetual motion (May 2020), in collaboration with Birkbeck College – University of London.

• – In Florence, the Leonardo and Florence exhibitions from 25 March to 24 June 2019, which will be hosted within the prestigious setting of the Sala dei Gigli in Palazzo Vecchio and the one held by the 13 September to 15 December 2019 at the Santa Maria Novella complex in the Ex-refectory
entitled Leonardo da Vinci and botany.

VINCI: THE CITY OF LEONARDO

Vinci is the town where Leonardo was born, and here you will find the Biblioteca Leonardiana, international center of Leonardo studies, and the Leonardo Municipal Museum of Vinci, a large and prestigious collection of models of Leonardian inventions made inside the Palazzina Uzielli and the Castello Dei Conti Guidi, which is an admirable medieval fortification dating back to the 11th century.

Visited every year by 130 thousand people, the Museo Leonardiano is one of the most important and popular museums in Tuscany.
In Vinci there is the ideal Leonardo da Vinci Museum, dedicated to the analysis of current events
of the figure of Leonardo and the complexity of his work as an artist, invented, inventor, designer. A definitely worth seeing is the Garden of Leonardo and Utopia, of which the Museum Ideale is taking care of the realization.

Leonardo’s Birthplace

Immersed among the centuries-old olive trees of Montalbano, in a landscape almost unchanged over time, the Christmas house of Anchiano is the symbolic place of Leonardo’s bond with his city.

In this simple country residence, a few kilometers from the village of Vinci, Leonardo was born on the 15th April 1452.

The ancient complex, whose existence is already attested in 1427, was donated in modern times to the municipality of Vinci from Count Giovanni Rasini of Castelcampo to be transformed into a museum in 1952.
Solemnly inaugurated on the occasion of the fifth centenary of the birth of Leonardo, the House of Anchiano it became a place of memory of Leonardo in Vinci.

The new museum itinerary, divided between the actual Christmas House, divided into three different environments, and the adjacent farmhouse is a turn in two rooms, invites you to discover the places and the scenarios that inspired his work.

At the birthplace of Leonardo Da Vinci you will find the audio-visual narrative Leonardo a Vinci: a genius talks about and makes use of modern three-dimensional technology to revive Leonardo and his more intimate and personal universe.
Relive the relationship between Leonardo and the Vinci area and the
Montalbano through the numerous drawings that unequivocally testify to his assiduousness
frequenting those places.

A life-size hologram, intertwining videos, theater and documentary, gives voice to an old and modern Leonardo who from his last home in Amboise turns the look at the past to tell the frequentations, the studies, the events that bound him to these lands.
They start, according to various thematic paths of research and freely to interact with the drawings and paintings for discover every detail.
In the farmhouse adjacent to the birthplace, the section dedicated to the Cenacle, as the only painting
mural of Leonardo visible today, exposes the high definition digital reproduction of the Last
Dinner, projected on the wall in 1: 2 scale. The technology used allows exploring the painting
through two search modes, a gesture and a touchscreen.
It is possible so different thematic routes such as, for example, the iconographic, historical, and the one dedicated to Restoration.
Accessible both by car and by bus, the birthplace is also connected to the village by the Green Road.
